Social Room FC - The new fan-led club project | News

If you are a fan of Stade Rennais, which I don’t doubt most of you are, and have some form of an online presence, then it wouldn’t have gone unnoticed that a new social media phenomenon has hit the fan base.

This new body of fan interaction is called the ‘Social Room FC’. It was launched last summer with the hope to build bridges between the club and its fans on social networks such as Twitter.

In an interview with We Are Rennes, the users over at the Social Room FC gave us an exclusive insight on the formation and current goings on with what is becoming a hit with supporters.

“The club came up with the idea last summer. They contacted us - a handful of Twitter users with "influence" and we met to discuss what we could do on social networks to make something new and interesting.

“The Social Room was born.

“The idea is to link social networks around Stade Rennais, to propose different angles on the club, separate from the official site and the press. We tried to be funny and offbeat and they gave us free reign on that matter and it's appreciated.

“The core is formed by 5 users: @LeFootXDuSRFC, @FeuxDeLaVilaine, @il_y_a_maing and @WayneRennais. However, for every game, at least two other users, most of the time different, are invited to the Stadium to tweet with us.

“Also, some others contribute to the website by writing articles before and after games, like @MarcoGrossi, @Laezh_Dour or @BallonSurLaN12. Moreover, everybody is invited to comment live on the games with the hashtag #SocialRoomFC.

“There are identified accounts that carry out the project, but the Social Room is actually formed by everybody who wants to participate by any of these ways: tweeting with the hashtag, playing the games and writing articles etc.”

With a numerous contingent working on this new project and being prominent Rennes fans on social media, did everyone know each other before the project started?

“Yes we just about knew each other, but that's a coincidence.”

With it being a club project, it’s always interesting to see how much influence they have on things such as social media.

“They [the club] are supportive within the limits of their own resources. The Social Room is new and a constant work in progress. It will grow and evolve we hope!

“We have already noticed some things to improve on. With the help of the club it could be even more interesting, with a bigger impact. We want do develop on games with the audience, but also the interaction between players and social networks.”

People who are unfamiliar with the Social Room will be interested in seeing what following the project would do to enhance their fan experiences.

“We think it provides a new and different look about Rennes. The image of the relationship between the club and the internet was really, really poor. It takes a lot of time to make it better, but we try the best we can, within our means.

“With this new team at the head of the communication service, Stade Rennais finally understood the power of the networks and the importance of building a strong relationship with its fans.”
